When I write poems, the title usually comes last, because I struggle with them. I’m not completely settled that this is the proper title for this one.

I lay words at your feet

mosaic tiles in bright colors

Arranged in a pattern

to convey some elusive meaning—

the path to contentment

the formula for eternal youth

the secrets you hold in your heart

You walk over the mosaic

with a brief downward glance

before fixing your eyes on the horizon

That’s the pattern’s purpose—

to be walked on

but what epiphany can seep though

the soles of your shoes

and enter your body?

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.
