The human brain in a strange and complicated thing. We don’t understand everything about it and sometimes it works in ways that don’t make sense. Tiny damage has terrible results, and then guys like Phineas Gage survive an accident that makes me shudder. And it can change to compensate for damage done to it. Isn’t it nifty?

Tangled lightning thoughts

fizz and sputter

in the brain

electricity conducting worry and joy

The deepest darkest thoughts and fears

shoved in a corner

and wished away

as if wishing can change the past

flash and sparkle just the same

as the brightest hopes and dreams

held repeatedly to memory’s light

to cast crystal rainbow slivers

on the world

Since both must exist

isn’t a kaleidoscope

than a single bright light

casting one deep shadow?

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.
