Day 7 – Favorite female character and why.

I’m going to go with Mercedes “Mercy” Thompson from Patricia Brigg’s series.

Though, really, there’s a lot of good choices. Charlaine Harris’  Harper Connelly, Tanya Huff’s Staff Sergeant Torin Kerr, Jane Austen’s Elizabeth Bennet… Anyway–

She totally doesn’t dress like that in the books.

Mercy is a mechanic and skin-walker (basically like a were-coyote), raised by werewolves, living, unfortunately enough, right next to another werewolf clan alpha who at one point threatens to eat her cat. She gets into all kinds of trouble with the werewolves, vampires, and fey in the area, but she stands up for what she believes in.

She’s not a flat or perfect character, which makes me happy. She makes mistakes, and then she tries to fix them. Sometimes she makes things worse. Even as a much smaller canine, she won’t back down from the wolves who try to bully her–she fights smart and fast instead.

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.
