Day 15 – A book that changed your opinion on something.

The Disappearing Spoon; Sam Kean.

Quick–what’s your favorite element?

I hate math a little bit. It hurts my brain–I know it’s necessary, and everywhere–but I’m pretty sure it doesn’t like me, either.

Science has a lot of math in it, so I’m less than fond of it. I have some science-y friends, and a few of them mentioned that they had a favorite element. Which I thought was a little odd.

I didn’t have a favorite element.

After reading this book, I like science just a little better–and now I have a favorite element.

Bismuth. Because when heated, it forms incredible-looking crystals that change into a rainbow of colors as they cool.

The world is a fascinating place.
