My February book for the Pride & Prejudice Bicentenary Challenge is:
Mr. & Mrs. Fitzwilliam Darcy; Sharon Lathan
This book is a sequel–opening right after the wedding. It’s Darcy and Lizzy’s honeymoon, and most of the book focuses on the standard activities of a very-much-in-love newlywed couple. Personally, I would’ve preferred more time spent on character development and less on bedroom activities. The descriptions are lyrical enough, and won’t make most people blush, but they do grow a little repetitive.
Toward the end of the book, a major plot complication is introduced that felt like a rushed afterthought. However, it’s resolved satisfactorily enough, and this book is part of a series, so there could very well be more development later.
I loved the flashbacks to scenes from Darcy and Lizzy’s courtship in Pride & Prejudice–the reader gets to revisit some favorite spots, and see them with perhaps a bit more details on the character’s emotions.
All in all, this is a fast read, which some P & P fans may adore. Just be aware it’s sugary sweet cotton candy, without much substance to it.

Oh, definitely read reviews first. If you look for people who mention what you like/dislike most, you’ll know whether a book is for you, not just whether it’s a good book. 🙂
