Polydactyl cats are pretty cute! (They’re cats with a mutation that gives them extra toes on their paws.)

Polly

But I just want to be loved!

Polly's paw

This is why some people call them mitten cats.

This girl at the shelter, Polly, was so sweet and friendly that I couldn’t get a picture without holding her still–she was determined to make friends by any means necessary, including climbing on me.

I’ve always thought these cats were pretty nifty, since I read that Hemingway collected them.

She can even flex those extra toes a little–I watched her do it while attempting to take her picture. Cats are already incredibly sneaky sometimes, opening and closing doors, especially the ones that get between them and food. We don’t need cats with thumbs. Imagine what they’d do if they no longer need us to operate the can openers!

Some polydactyl kittens. So fuzzy!
