It’s the end of the first full week of NaNoWriMo–a total of nine days of writing, but still.

I’ve made my word count so far–not the average of 1,667 words every day, but nearly that a few days, and a few hundred more other days.

One thing I had discovered is that the NaNo stats are both a good thing and a terrible thing. It’s good to know how many words you need a day, and whether you’re on target. The roll over happens at midnight, and before you’ve entered your daily word count (before you’ve likely started your daily word count, really) all your numbers nosedive.

And then I stare at it, saddened by my new averages and estimated finish date. I remind myself that it’s not ‘real,’ but still…

How did your first week go, NaNo people?

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.

Congrattulations, Caitlin! So glad you are doing this, and sending you loads of positive ENERGY to keep up the pace. You can do it, I know!! Yay!

I sure hope so–I’ve already run into some problems. I got about halfway through my outline, and realized I was writing far too spare. So I had to go back and flesh it out.

      But it’s progressing.
