Empty White

The silence at my center

plummets

so

far

no echo can be heard

sometimes I get lost

in that vastness

intentions drowning

ideas sinking

But when the everyday monsters

yell

What did you forget?

Do you know you will fail?

Why can’t you be better?

Silence swallows the doubts

swaddled in pure

soft

empty white

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.

Great poetry. I always admired those who could write it and understand it.

Free verse is actually pretty easy. Write a thought down, then insert line breaks. I take comfort (and inspiration) from William Carlos Williams. A famous poem of his is about a wheelbarrow, after all.

Your poetry never fails to amaze me. Great job, Caitlin!
