A second of my fairy tale related poems. Really, fairy tales are kind of dark, if you look at the originals.

Boy Who Cried Wolf

“Wolf!” he cried

“Beware! Lock your doors and bar your windows!”

The townspeople took up arms

and torches

to slay the beast

but all they found was the boy

alone and scared

“You lied,” they accused and left him

though he cried for them to return

On the next night, “Wolf!” he cried

but the townspeople didn’t see

a wolf

and told him they wouldn’t listen

to his cries again

Weeping, the boy ran away

into the lonely woods

That night the full moon rose

the boy became a wolf

and raged through the town

his howls echoed

pleas to the deaf stars
