April is National Poetry Month. I’m celebrating with Writer’s Digest’s Poem a Day Challenge. Today’s prompt it to write a poem about what you are or what you’re not.

I’m brave in the face of my fears

except for when I’m not

expect me to turn coward at the secret terrors

of my heart

(and needles. Those, too.)

I’m shy and find strangers bewildering

full of dead ends and potential disaster

unless there’s something I need to say

(though I’ll still be terrified)

I’m giving not just in grand gestures

but also in small kindnesses

unless you take too much

(and then you’ll get used to the word no.)

I’m simple

like everyone else

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.
