This is a WIP, NaNoWriMo 2015, Forest Wed. Adann and Kaie (who was engaged), are married as symbols of their gods, and 2 weeks into their marriage, the gods’ blessing and the town are suffering, so they are sent on a hunting trip with two experienced hunters (Rui and Corliss). On the third day, Kaie and Adann  trap a kien (snake and anteater monster), and with great effort, kill it, getting injured it the process.

Leaning forward, hands braced on his knees, Kaie panted, trying to catch his breath. Adann wobbled as the rush of danger slowly drained from her body, and the slashes to her arm made themselves felt in throbbing aches.

She glanced down at the two gashes parting her skin, and suddenly, they burned much worse than a moment ago. Hissing at the pain, she headed for where she’d dropped her pack a little down the trail. First, she needed to clean the wound, and then she’d ask Kaie to help her bandage it.

Mixing dried herbs from her pack into a paste, she spread it over the cuts, careful to cover every bit of broken skin, wincing at the sting.

“Adann? Are you—” Kaie stopped, taking in the blood smeared on her arm. “You’re hurt!”

“It’s just a scratch,” Adann sluiced away the worst of the blood.

Beikife is a small town in something like the Amazon rain forest, protected by a pair of married gods. The gods are represented by human avatars, two young people chosen and married by divine power. The strength of the marriage represents the bond between the gods’ blessing, so the new forest wed must find a way to connect to each other, or the crops will fail, the rivers will flood, and the cursed monsters that live in the forest will claim many lives.

Adann is definitely a capable young lady and I hope she doesn’t worry about losing that ability if she leans on Kaie a bit. With that one obervation he seems concerned for her, I hope he will act on that. Nice possibilities.
