This is a WIP, NaNoWriMo 2015, Forest Wed. Adann and Kaie (who was engaged), are married as symbols of their gods, and 2 weeks into their marriage, the gods’ blessing and the town are suffering, so they are sent on a hunting trip with two experienced hunters (Rui and Corliss). On the third day, Kaie and Adann are talking, and when Adann asks for a kiss, Kaie reacts badly and storms off alone to check on the other two hunters.
“Kaie–not alone, it isn’t safe this far out!” Adann yelled.
“I’m armed,” Kaie shook the spear he’d already killed one monster with today.
The sound of running feet followed, spurring him to race faster. Couldn’t she leave him alone, even for a little while? He tried to offer her something she wanted, and she refused it. So frustrating.
From the noises behind him, he was gaining ground, so he kept moving, feet slapping the earth, wishing he could outrun his future so easily.
He rounded a corner in the trail, and hit something furry. Claws ripped into his side, and something yowled, piercing and challenging, right in his ear. Whatever he’d tangled with felt like a cat, and it didn’t want to let him go.

Beikife is a small town in something like the Amazon rain forest, protected by a pair of married gods. The gods are represented by human avatars, two young people chosen and married by divine power. The strength of the marriage represents the bond between the gods’ blessing, so the new forest wed must find a way to connect to each other, or the crops will fail, the rivers will flood, and the cursed monsters that live in the forest will claim many
Oh dear! Hopefully Adann is close behind. Excellent surprise, Caitlin
She’s as close as she can be!
I expect Adann will be able to help save him, but he’s still a headstrong idiot!
Speaking of headstrong idiots … Effing forgot to link to my WeWriWa (watch out, cat, or you’ll be replaced by Twiggles the dog!) but here it is.
This was not a good choice on his part… storming off alone in the monster-infested jungle.
Sounds like Kaie acting before he thinks is about to catch up with him!
He has, quite literally, run into trouble.
Scary moment. Call the doctor or Adann will come to the rescue.
She is following him as fast as she can–now it’s not such a good thing he’s a faster runner!
Can’t say she didn’t warn him! She has a lot to deal with if their going to save the villagers when he’s so headstrong and takes off.

Kaie is going to have to compress some growing up in a very short time period… but he can do it!
“…wishing he could outrun his future so easily.” Still wrangling with his past.
Is she going to have to get him out of this mess? 🙂
He’s going to need some help, for sure!
Yikes! He should have listened to Adann. I’m hoping she’ll come to his rescue. Great snippet! 🙂
He needs that written on his hand ‘listen to Adann!’ 😀
Firstly, he’s got the frustrating thing backward, I think. Second, oh no! Adann better get to him soon! :S
Well, he is frustrated–not for a good reason, but still…
An exciting snippet. Love it
Thanks!
Uh oh, Kaie’s in trouble now. I hope she’s not far behind because he always seems to need her help. Love the story, another excellent excerpt.
Neither of them are trained monster hunters–but Adann’s smart enough not to go wandering off alone!
Ouch!
There’s all sorts of scary wildlife in a rainforest–and monsters, in this one, too.
Look what happens when you turn down affection. lol He could be kissing his wife and perhaps it would lead to something more, but no. He has to be stubborn. Now he’s wrestling with something that wants to eat him. Almost serves him right. lol (But on the other hand, I hope he’s okay.)
Hah! Yep, his options are kissing or killer cats. 😉
The adventures never end with these two! Loved this bit – ‘wishing he could outrun his future so easily.’ Maybe you need to stop running, and take a good, hard look at what’s right in front of you. 😉
At this point, it’s an angry cat. 😀 But yes, he needs to really look at Adann, not get stuck inside his head.
Didn’t take long for his bad choices to come back and bite him – literally. Hope he survives it.
Running into a dangerous jungle isn’t going to end well for anybody. But he isn’t really alone–Adann isn’t far behind.
Yowza! I hope he didn’t outrun her by too much!
Yes, that would be very bad.
