I’m sure anyone who’s ever had a cat, or shared any space with a friendly one, has had a lap cat. This is about the other ways they decide to keep themselves warm.

Not Quite Lap Cats

Some cats cuddle on your lap

It’s a good place–

flat enough

to curl or stretch

Then there’s the less sensible choices–

careful balancing along the calves,

just the front legs claiming the space,

ramming two cats onto one lap,

or inexplicably lying on the chest of someone trying

to write.

So far I must be grateful,

I suppose,

that no cat has tried to sleep on my head
