April is National Poetry month! So have a poem! 🙂 Since today is the thirteenth….

Triskaidekaphobia

Outside of fears of venomous snakes and spiders

and things like great heights

which can all hurt or kill you

no fear really makes sense

except in the sense that the world can be a fearful

place

and why not cope as best you can?

Myself I’m not afraid of a number

thirteen is just twelve plus one

but I have to admit

the fear

is widespread but so lyrical

tris-ka

de-ka

fo-be-ah

About Caitlin Stern

I have a MA in English, and have so many fantasy/urban fantasy WIPs it's not even funny. I'm an avid reader of science fiction, fantasy, mystery, romance, biography, fiction, and anything else that catches my interest. I collect books, and bookmarks I find that are visually appealing and useful.

Another cool poem, Caitlin. I’m not afraid of snakes, though spiders make me cringe. And most words don’t bother me, either. (Except maybe strode.) I do toss a pinch of salt over my left shoulder when I spill some, but that’s perfectly understandable, because it will make the demon that’s sneaking up on you jump back. So of course, that one doesn’t count. But here’s what I’m wondering. Why does a word that signifies a fear of the number 13 only have 7 syllables? They need to rethink this one. 🙂
