April 10: Books I Loved but Will Never Re-Read (submitted by Brandyn @ Goingforgoldilocks)
These are books I got from the library, and probably won’t purchase or check out again. Probably, but who knows?
1. Meet Cute; Jennifer Armentrout. Cute, but not substantial.
2. In Real Life; Cory Doctrow & Jen Wang. It was cute, but pretty light, a re-read wouldn’t find something new.
3. Turtles all the Way Down; John Green. Somehow, the characters didn’t speak to me enough.
4. The Mountain Between Us; Charles Martin. Read to go with the movie, but neither really spoke to me.
5. The Portable Dorothy Parker; Dorothy Parker. Though I like all her work, it turns out her poems speak to me far more.
6. The Selected Works of T.S. Spivet; Reif Larsen & Ben Gibson. A bit slow.
7. Word by Word; Kory Stamper. Cool and informative, but not so much I’d reread.
8. Just Mercy; Brian Stevenson. A good, but rather sad read.
9. Annihilation; Jeff VanderMeer. Too creepy for a reread.
10. Princeless; Jeremy Whitley. Later comics let me down, so I won’t keep reading–or go back.
I still need to pick up Turtles for the first time and you’re already thinking about the whole re-reading thing! 😉
Turtles is a good book–very emotional. Hope you enjoy it!
good to know –
Still all good reads! 🙂
Haven’t read any of these, but the Dorothy Parker is on my TBR. We’ll see what I think of it. I tweaked this weeks topics because I couldn’t think of books I loved but wouldn’t ever want to revisit: https://franlaniado.wordpress.com/2018/04/10/top-ten-tuesday-childrens-books-i-appreciate-more-as-an-adult/
I would reread the poems, but the short stories weren’t my thing. Hope you like them!
Thanks
I have such a hard time rereading any books. There are so many books out there I haven’t even read for the first time that I’m trying to find time for 😂
I don’t do a lot of rereading, but some stories are good enough to revisit. 🙂
I have Turtles checked out from the library on my ereader now! I have avoided John Green books so far. Idk when I will get to it cause I keep getting ARC’s lol. I hope I can renew it. I’m on my fourth music plot ARC book in two weeks. I didn’t realize I had a theme until I got the last one today.
They’re not for everyone, but they are good books. Hope you enjoy it!
Annihilation is actually on my list to read soon, I really hope I enjoy it.
It’s quite a trip!
Good to know. 🙂
Great picks for this week, I actually want to read Meet Cute and I have Turtles All the Way Down on my to-read list (along with nearly every other John Green book released so far)! 😀
Meet Cute is adorable, and though some John Green books are heart-breakers, they’re all good. Happy reading!
Great list, Caitlin! I have that edition of The Portable Dorothy Parker sitting on my shelf and have dipped in and out of it a bit, but haven’t yet read it cover to cover. I agree that her poems are the most enjoyable!
That’s definitely the way to read it. Mine was a library book, so I had to be fairly quick.
