Saw this building on a trip that passed through New Orleans. It caught my eye, and I had to take a picture.

No idea what this was, other than pretty. New Orleans, LA.
Facade
Lipstick red cinderblock
dazzling smile of
white trim
wrought iron lashes
framing soul-windows
Hemmed in by brick shoulders
of taller
unpainted big sisters

Great image, and even better poem! Nice work, Caitlin!
It’s a beautiful city, I have to go back someday.
Hi Caitlin, Love the poem. You really captured the essence of the building and tree. Good use of evocative language and enjambment.
Thanks! I love to play with line breaks in poetry. Word rebel! 🙂
Lipstick – what a clever idea to make that connection 🙂
Thanks! That building looks like a lady who’s wearing some serious war paint–the kind who spends 45 minutes on make up, but’s still classy.
Haha- so true- love that you saw that 🙂
